Pledge of Allegiance:
It fosters national unity and loyalty by affirming allegiance to the flag and the republic, becoming a daily ritual in schools and public events since its adoption in 1892 and formal recognition in 1942 and 1954.
National Anthem:
"The Star-Spangled Banner," inspired by the defense of Fort McHenry in 1814, symbolizes resilience and patriotism, officially adopted in 1931 as a unifying song during times of war and celebration.
Bill of Rights:
Ratified in 1791, it guarantees essential individual freedoms and limits government power, serving as the foundational protection of civil liberties that shaped American democracy and inspired global human rights movements.
America's US Constitution:
Drafted in 1787 and ratified in 1788, it established the enduring framework for the federal government, separation of powers, and rule of law, making it the oldest written national constitution still in use.
Our Declaration of Independence:
Adopted on July 4, 1776, it boldly announced the colonies' break from Britain and articulated the revolutionary principles of equality, unalienable rights, and government by consent, igniting the American Revolution and influencing democracies worldwide.
Mayflower Compact:
Signed in 1620 by Pilgrim settlers, it was the first governing document in America creating a self-governing colony based on majority rule and the consent of the governed, laying early groundwork for democratic principles.
Ten Commandments:
Brought by the Pilgrims and deeply embedded in colonial laws and courts, they provided the moral and legal foundation for early American jurisprudence and continue to influence the nation's ethical framework and public discourse on right and wrong. Their King James Version of the Bible contains the standard Ten Commandments in Exodus and Deuteronomy. The Aitken Bible (true to the KJV) stands as a key piece from the Revolution - printed right when America was taking shape. This was the First English Bible printed fully in America: Robert Aitken produced it in Philadelphia in 1782, using local type and paper. Congress gave it a nod: on September 12, 1782, they passed a resolution praising the work and suggesting it for public use.
